Consumer harm to older people
Yoko Eguchi

In Japan, consumer harm among the older population is a pressing issue. According to the Practical Living Information Online Network System;PIO-NET, individuals aged 65 and above, displaying cognitive signs, face higher consultations from family than from themselves when becoming contracting parties. Face-to-face sales with simple procedures notably contribute to these issues. Raising awareness in medical institutions for both older individuals and their families is crucial. Urging prompt consultation with specialized agencies, like Consumer Affairs Centers, when harm occurs is vital. Leveraging their support effectively prevents and mitigates incidents. This research aims to enhance understanding of consumer victimization among the elderly, contributing to developing fitting strategies and preventive measures.
