Involvement and prevention for life-style related disease in patients with vascular dementia

Takao Urabe

Department of Neurology, Juntendo University Urayasu Hospital

It is well-known that the classical risk factors of cerebral infarction are hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia and atrial fibrillation.  Then, the relationship between these risk factors and vascular dementia is an important role for preventive issue.  The recent studies indicate that these risk factors are directly associated with cognitive decline and onset of Alzheimer's disease.  It is hoped that the treatment for these risk factors may prevent the onset of cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease.  Recent report has raised the possibility that direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) use is associated with a lower risk of new-onset dementia.
