Support for people living with dementia and the family
Yukio Takahashi
Espoir Izumo Clinic
When we think about the support for people with dementia and the family, it is necessary that we understand the psychosocial-pathology.
Firstly, people with dementia can neither initiate a conversation nor easily join a conversation;and as a result, they tend to get isolated.
Secondly, the family and supporters of the people with dementia complain about their core symptoms;when this occurs, the people with dementia think they were accused. As situation like these piles up, the core symptom is likely to be associated with BPSD.
It is important for the people with dementia to receive a sensitive care and gentle approach from their family and friends. Minimizing the accusing tone from the surroundings will help the people with dementia to stay decent and calm, and thus lead to their family's mental relief.
