The purpose of the present study was to examine the cardiovascular stress responses and the mood state change when nursing students met with the first opportunity of the needle manipulation practice of injecting and taking a blood sample. The significant cardiovascular changes of blood pressures and heart rates were observed between two role taking of clients and nurses, and between the periods before and after the practice. The state of “tension and excitement” and “anxious mood” showed relatively high scores independent of pre and post period of practice. The mood states in case of injection practice did not significantly change between pre and post, but remarkably changed in case of taking a blood sample practice, that is, the scores of “tension and excitement” and “depressive mood” decreased, whereas that of “refreshing mood” increased significantly after the practice.
