Aged Female with Obsessive-compulsive Disorder:
Consideration of an Interpersonal Process
between a Client and Nurses and
the Roles of Nurses
*Department of Nursing, College of Medical Science, Tohoku University
An eleven year old girl with obsessive-compulsive was admitted, due to severe weight loss and hyperactivity. Nurses supported her by being with her and taking care of her so that she could set and reach her goals by herself, while she was treated with behavioral therapy.
We reviewed the interpersonal process between her and the nurses based on Peplau's model of interpersonal relations. The relationship was developed in accordance with the four sequential phases of the interpersonal process; orientation, identification, exploitation, and resolution, overlapping each other. The nurses played the role of her mother consistently.
