Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites are the specific pathological features in Lewy body disease (LBD) including Parkinson's disease (PD) and dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB). On the other hand, glial cytoplasmic inclusions (GCI) and neuronal cytoplasmic inclusions (NCI) are the pathological features specific to multiple system atrophy (MSA). As α-synuclein is the main component of these pathological inclusions in LBD and MSA, these diseases are now called α-synucleinopathy. In this paper recent topics of the syncleionopathy are overviewed. In addition, the topics of the 4th International Workshop on DLB and PDD, which was held in Yokohama on November 2nd to 4th 2006, are also introduced.
